Shrek Forever After, which was titled Shrek Goes Fourth for a long time, is out on May 21, 2010. And fans of the series should make the most of the eclectic cast of characters and actors as it’s been confirmed as the last film in the series.
There were rumors that Shrek 4 would be the start of a new trilogy but that looks not to be the case. Instead, Shrek and his lovable band of friends are going out on a high, finishing up the series in what is surely going to be a happy ever after scenario.
Bill Damaschke, head of creative production at DreamWorks, confirmed Shrek Forever After was the last film in the series by telling USA Today:
“All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film.”
Meanwhile, director Mike Mitchell revealed a little about the plot of the new film. Shrek has become (and is feeling) over-domesticated.
“He has lost his roar. It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches.”
Shrek strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin which then goes wrong and forces Shrek to consider life in Far Far Away if he’d never actually existed. Not that the plot really matters on this occasion – so long as it’s funny and the cast are strong then the series could and should go out on a high.
