Bruni-Sarkozy to Make Film Debut in Woody Allen Movie

Move over, Scarlett–the Woodman has a new muse.

MSN Movies (as well as a number of other outlets) reports that Woody Allen has asked Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy to appear in his next film. She said yes. She also said:

“I’d like to — you know — when I’m a grandmother, to have done a Woody Allen film…I cannot in my life miss an opportunity like this.”

Apparently being a super model and then First Lady of France aren’t enough for one lifetime.

“If this ever comes about, it’ll be a great experience,” she added.

Or maybe not. Allen has a rep for being not always the most helpful director for actors. But wait!

“I’m not at all an actress. Maybe I’ll be absolutely terrible.”

So maybe whether Allen gives direction or not won’t matter. But I must say, I love that quote from Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy. Far too many people think that anyone can be an actor, and those who are famous for other things (politics, sports, modeling whatever) often seem to believe that if they just pick up a script, of course, they’ll be able to hold their own on screen (or, god forbid, theater). Carla’s honesty is refreshing. Almost enough to make me hope that she won’t be terrible if the film role ever does come through. But not enough to make me wish more that directors would stop being so enchanted by the myth of the amateur.
